This guide will walk you through each step of restoring your backup project in Estimating Link to help get you back on track quickly.
Need to go "back in time" on a project you're bidding and "undo" some of the work? While Estimating Link doesn't have an UNDO button (yet), there IS a way to restore old data and go back to a previous version of the project. Follow these instructions...
1. Rename the current project (the one you want to "undo") by going to File>Project Properties> Change Project name> Click OK and Exit Estimating Link
In this example, we renamed the project: Main_ST_DO NOT USE
2. Navigate to your file Explorer and go to your backups folder:
This PC>OS (C:)>Program Files (x86)>Construction Link>Estimating Link V3>Backups
Find your project and you'll see up to 5 .bak (backup) files
💡Tip: Sort your files by Name to view all your project files together.
🗒️Note: If you don't see any BAK files, you may need to turn on the view for your extensions. While in your backup folder, at the top select View>Show>File Name Extensions
🗒️Note: Estimating Link automatically defaults locally to your computers C: drive. If you changed the default and mapped your backup folder to a different location, you'll need to navigate to the specific location you set up.
3. Change your backup file to a ".cli" file
- Decide which backup file you want to restore. The timestamp of the file will help you determine the right backup file to select.
- Right Click>Show more options>Rename
- Remove the text at the end of the file name that starts with "_IBAK_".
- DO NOT delete .cli
- Hit Enter on your keyboard to save the file name
- example:
- Main_ST.cli_IBAK_3
- remove "_IBAK_3" from file name
- Main_ST.cli_IBAK_3
- example:
-
- File name becomes Main_St.cli
- File name becomes Main_St.cli
4. Now that you've changed your file extension, you're now ready to import your project back into Estimating Link:
- Open Estimating Link
- Go to File>Import>Restore Project
- Navigate to the project file you just renamed and click Open
5. Congratulations, you've successfully imported your backup project!
Look over your project to determine if you selected the right project at the right restore point. If you need to use a different backup file at a different restore point, repeat the steps above.
